The Company was founded in 1937 when Frederick ‘Tim’ Smales began selling freshly caught seafood to fish and chip shops in and around Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

From these humble beginnings Smales has continued to grow and innovate to become a market leader within the UK Seafood sector.  The Company remains a family owned business thereby maintaining values and standards as the company has been passed down the generations. The passion that started the business over 75 years ago is still at the heart of all that we do.

These days the business has a turnover heading towards £100 million and leads the way in the development and supply of innovative chilled and frozen seafood solutions to the retail, food service and wholesale UK markets.
