The Company was founded in 1937 when Frederick ‘Tim’ Smales began selling freshly caught seafood to fish and chip shops in and around Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

From these humble beginnings Smales has continued to grow and innovate to become a market leader within the UK Seafood sector.  The Company remains a family owned business thereby maintaining values and standards as the company has been passed down the generations. The passion that started the business over 70 years ago is still at the heart of all that we do. We feel that what we don’t know about this business isn’t worth knowing!

These days the business has a turnover of circa. £80m and leads the way in the development and supply of innovative chilled and frozen seafood solutions to the retail, food service and wholesale UK markets.
